I used this book plus the flash cards and found that almost NONE of the questions on the RS exam were at all what I studied in this book. I sometimes wonder if they set you up to fail. Each time you take a test MA makes more $$. I felt like I was taking a totally different exam than what I studied for and therefore did pass. I DID pass the Communication and Literacy test the first time but that prep book was actually useful. These tests and the prep books to go with them are a total scam!

This product has been helpful breaking down the areas to study without being overly wordy. I am able to create my own flashcards to help me prepare for the Reading Specialist exam in Massachusetts.
Unfortunately, this study guide did not meet my expectations. The questions included in the practice test were nothing like the questions on the MTEL. The questions on the MTEL were a lot trickier with more scenario-type questions.They do include a lot of useful review information at the beginning of the guide which parallels the research and study I have done previously; however, it is definitely not worth $50. Also, there are two open-response questions on the MTEL, which are not included here. It would have been extremely helpful if examples of these types of questions were included, with detailed explanations about what the MTEL is looking for in the response. Don't waste your money. Instead, look at the questions on the MTEL website to get a sense of what the questions will be like and study based off of the objectives listed on the MTEL website.
This review book was terrible! The amount of errors within the study guide numbered in the hundreds. It makes me question whether to trust the information at all. In addition, the Massachusetts MTEL for Reading Specialist will contain two open response questions. Within this guide, there are no open response questions at all, making it less than adequate as a study guide for the Massachusetts MTEL.
